Drought in the Southwest requires tougher conservation measures After an eleven year drought, Lake Mead is expected to go below the crucial 1,075 feet demarcation line within the next year.  A temporary reallocation of water between the seven states fed by the lower Colorado River occurs is set to occur when the 1,075 feet limit is breached.  If the level falls below 1,050 the turbines located at Hoover Dam on Lake Mead will stop working further complicating the situation.  Not only will further measures to conserve water will be needed, but also new sources of energy.

TVA plans to shutdown nine  coal-fired power units The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) will be shutting down nine coal-fired units in the next five years starting in 2011.  Most of the units that will be taken off line are old and inefficient and will be replaced with renewable energy units like natural gas and biomass.

The hydrokinetic HyPEG is safe for aquatic life Hydrokinetic Laboratory has developed the HyPEG short for Hydrokinetic Powered Energy Generation.  The HyPEG can be used either off-shore or in tidal currents.  It is safe for aquatic life regardless of its placement.

The 2009 Global Cleantech 100 has been released The Guardian and Cleantech Group, published the 2009 Global Cleantech 100  showcasing the most promising clean technologies around the world.  All the Companies listed are private companies so it is not surprising that China, although housing the largest solar cell manufacturer in the world, does not have a single company on the list.
