Joos Orange promises lots of solar power

March 5, 2010

Joos Orange promises lots of solar power Joos Orange by Solar Components is being billed as one of the most powerful portable solar charges soon to be released.   Joos Orange is expected to be 20 to 30 times more powerful than current chargers.  It will be light, thin, waterprooof and can work in low light conditions.

The Joos Orange uses commercial solar industry technology including a “micro-processer energy management system” that prevents over charging or over discharging as well as provides current and voltage protection.  There will also be a way to monitor it using your personal computer or an iPhone applet.  The charger has LED lights for the status of both the charger and the charging.

The outside casing is a polycarbonate material that includes legs that can be used to position the solar charger for optimal exposure to the sun.  The solar panel is mono-crystalline with Silicon Nitride anti-reflective coating.  Optional reflectors are also available for increasing solar efficiency.

Most portable solar chargers require direct bright sunlight in order to fully charge a battery or portable device. The Joos Orange doesn’t.  It can charge in bright sun, shade, underwater and even light rain.  Extreme conditions are no problem since it will charge in desert or arctic conditions.

The charger comes with a 5,400mAh replaceable Li-ion battery pack that will hold its charge for years.  If you have more than one battery, you can store a fully charged one for emergency power while you are charging a second.  A full battery will be able to charge “4 empty iPhones, 6 regular cell phones, or 3 portable game players”.

The Joos Orange with 96 percent efficiency at peak power may be the most powerful portable solar charger on the market when it is eventually released.  Certainly being able to charge in extreme conditions and low light will make it a great device for hiking, camping, and rural traveling.  With almost daily reports of advanced solar cell breakthroughs and new portable solar charger configurations, the Joos Orange is sure to face stiff competition.
