Get free music while helping the environment
Although Copenhagen turned out to be a disaster, you can still speak out for climate change legislation and receive free music for doing so. Go to the Music for Action site, send an email to your Senator or President Obama and download music from great artists.
Music for Action was created jointly by HeadCount and the NRDC Action Fund. “HeadCount is a nonpartisan organization that works with musicians to facilitate participation in democracy.” The NRDC works to get environmental legislation passed that will result in green jobs and greener communities. All three sites offer information on energy and climate bills and the opportunity to write a newspaper editorial, sign a letter to your Senator or the President once you have the information you need.
Music for Action is offering 17 different songs one each from Wilco, Pearl Jam, Jack Johnson, Moe, Ani DiFranco, Dave Mathews Band, Death Cab for Cutie, Phish, Gov’t Mule, O.A.R., Raphael Saadiq, Bob Weir and Rat Dog, The Disco Biscuits, The Decemberists, My Morning Jacket, Guster, and Phil Lesh and Friends, for download. Pearl Jam and Dave Mathews Band performed last month at the Grammys. Most of the musicians handpicked the songs that are available for download. This is the first time that several of the songs have been offered to the public.
Other music and environmental organizations have partnered with Music for Action to lend their clout to the movement. Grist, Green Music Group, Reverb, Relix, Rogue Global Solutions, World Watch, Energy Action Coalition, Spin, Oxfam, 350, and Paste are very different organizations. Grist is an online blog that offers news, information, and advice on sustainable living. OXfam is a nonprofit working to abolish poverty and injustice across the world. Reverb is an organization that greens up band and campus concerts. Spin is a media magazine. Yet all of them have come together in support of Music for Action.
Many organizations like the Environmental Defense Fund will provide you the opportunity to email your Congressperson, the President, and State legislators, but only Music for Action rewards you with music.
