Flexible Love defines recycled furniture
Flexible Love is a made from recycled materials to create a chair/sofa that is expandable, configurable and easily stored. Depending on your needs, the Flexible Love can be a chair or a sofa or a love seat in traditional or untraditional formations. When you decide you want something more rigid or just want new furniture, the Flexible Love can be recycled.
Chishe Chiu, a designer in Miao Li, Taiwan, was looking for new design possibilities and materials. He found both when he discovered a factory that recycled paper into honeycombed sheets that were then made into rigid cardboard platforms. The cardboard platforms were strong enough to replace wooden platforms.
The Flexible Love furniture is made from the same honeycombed cardboard. Not only is the furniture strong, it can be expanded from a chair to a sofa that will seat eight or sixteen people depending on the size you purchase.
Part of the fun of this furniture is that you can literally configure it to match your mood. The chair/sofa can be folded up completely for storage, or you can open it to chair size. It can be come a wavy couch or circular couch. You can set it up like a sectional sofa where everyone on it is facing or set it up so that no one is facing each other. Depending on the size of your room or your party, you can lengthen or shorten the piece at will.
In order for your Flexible Love to gain it’s full length, you need to “stretch and fold your accordion-chair about ten times”. Since it is made from cardboard, you don’t want to leave it out in the rain or set it too near burning objects. Rain and presumably other liquids will destroy the furniture. Letting friends smoke on it or have any sort of lit object around it would also be dangerous.
Currently the only place you can purchase one is online. Of course you will want to think very long and very hard before purchasing the Flexible Love. Until some sort of waterproof coating is applied, this is not the piece of furniture you want with kids or others who will spill liquids all over it. Nor do you want to have parties where someone might accidently set it on fire.
