YoGen’s pedal powered charger is different than most

YoGen's pedal powered charger is different than most Most pedal powered chargers either look like a stationary bicycle or look like an adaptor for regular bikes to turn them into stationary bikes.  These pedal chargers are a lot more like exercise than charging.  They tend to be home charging devices for laptops and their peripherals.  The YoGen MAX changes the way that pedal power works.

The YoGen MAX is a single pedal similar to a piano pedal or sewing machine pedal.  It fits any size shoe and requires less energy than riding a bike.  It will deliver 50 to 60 W of power to your laptop or notebook computer.  It uses a “unique, proprietary, extremely slim alternator connected to a high ratio micro-transmission” unit  that is powered by your foot.

The device is described as having a “a springy, suspended, self-returning pedal.”  The pedal will fit any shoe size and is attached to your laptop via a cable with a coaxial plug and laptop adaptors.  Generating enough power for your laptop will require continuous pedaling so prepare your iTunes playlist accordingly.  You’ll want a good beat to “tap” to while you work on your computer.

As with so many portable chargers, if the pedal gets too tiresome, there is a handy dandy option of a built in back up battery pack.  The battery pack uses easy to find rechargeable AA batteries.

YoGEN MAX portable One neat thing about this device over many other pedal chargers is the ability to adjust the output.  You can change the amount of power that is flowing to your device to the “optimal” amount needed for your laptop or peripheral.  The charger will actually generate up to 80 W of power.

Unlike other pedal powered chargers, the YoGen MAX folds up into a portable unit about the size of a hardback book, that can be slipped into your computer bag.

The YoGen Max isn’t out yet but is due soon.  You can find it at the YoGen Store when it becomes available.
