Here are easy ways to find green hotels

Here are easy ways to find green hotels Want to find an economical yet green hotel?  Several different on line sites will direct you to green resorts and accommodations.  You can even   check out the roadside assistance and discount travel organization AAA.

AAA’s online website or its tour book guide allow you to easily find green resorts, hotels, etc.   They will be found with a green ECO emblem.  Of course you first have to have a AAA membership.  You can decide if AAA is right for you but if finding green accommodations is high on your list of requirements for such a service then AAA may be what you are looking for.

Of course, if you don’t want or need a AAA membership, there are other routes that you can take.  Several online sites offer to provide you with information on green accommodations and resorts.  For instance, Environmentally Friendly Hotels (the one with the great logo above) allows you to put in a location in order  to pull up green lodgings or a property name to see how green it is.  This website also has a way for people to add eco-friendly hotels to the data base.  It even has a little green tree rating system.  The more green trees the more environmentally friendly the hotel.

Another website is The Green Connoisseur.  The site claims to be “Your Escort to a Luxurious and Eco-Conscious Lifestyle” and offers you articles on featured eco friendly establishments and locations as well as  pet friendly locations.  The site offers you information on what can only by called luxury items for the wealthy environmentalist.

OutTraveler.com offers a list of the “Top Eco-friendly Hotels in North America” complete with short reviews.  You can find  eco-friendly hotels in most of the major cities in the US and one in Jalisco, Mexico.  Apparently no hotel in Canada made the grade.

If you are really into Bed & Breakfasts, check out BNBscape.  The website lists green tips for vacationers as well as, 11 eco-practices that it encourages for green B&Bs.

1. Environmental Awareness

2. Waste Reduction / Reuse / Recycle

3. Energy Efficiency

4. Alternative Renewable Energy

5. Water Conservation

6. Indoor Air Quality

7. Biodegradable Products

8. Organic Products

9. Responsible Transportation

10. Landscape/Soil Conservation

11. Supporting Local Community

I Stay Green also provides information on green properties.  The site has a rating system (the more green leaves the better) and provides reviews of different establishments.  You can also join I Stay Green.  It’s free.

These are the best and easiest sites that I found for locating eco-friendly lodgings and for information about the accommodations.  These sites should help you find a green place to stay as you plan for the holidays.
